A PSW in Welland is facing charges after multiple pieces of jewelry were stolen from elderly people and pawned earlier this month.
Niagara police started investigating on July 11 when a senior discovered some of their jewelry was missing.
Officers learned a PSW used her position to enter the client’s home and steal the items.
The jewelry was then recovered from a local pawnshop. Police also obtained video footage of the PSW at the pawnshop.
Melody Varley, 71, was arrested Tuesday and charged with traffic in property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Members of the public who Varley may have cared for are encouraged to look through their personal belongings and review the photos in this story.
Varley is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 7 in Welland.
