A pedestrian was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Welland Sunday night.

A CHCH freelancer says the incident occurred at the intersection of East Main Street and McAlpine Ave. South.

At around 11:20 p.m., a 35-year-old man was struck by a vehicle, leaving him with serious head trauma.

The man was transported to the St. Catharines Hospital before being airlifted by Air Ornge to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

Officials say the road may be closed for a period of time depending on the condition of the patient.
