The Hamilton Cardinals and Welland Jackfish of the Intercounty Baseball League went head to head in the last game of their series to win the CHCH QEW Cup.

The Jackfish won it all in the end. The series was an opportunity for another layer of competition for both teams within the regular season.

The rivalry between the Hamilton Cardinals and the Welland Jackfish came to a head today.

“Why not re-ignite a rivalry. The QEW Cup is something that actually existed way back when,” said a member of the Cardinals.

The cup was around back in the 80s when it was the Hamilton Redbirds and the St. Catharines Blue Jays competing for it.

On Sunday, the Jackfish and Cardinals went at it. The team with the most games in their six game head-to-head match up during the regular season takes it.

“Give that in-game rivalry and mid-season rivalry. Gives us something to play for during the season as well as the championship,” said a Cardinals player.

“We all go out and we want to win every single day. No guy here likes losing. So we go out everyday wanting to get a W,” said a Jackfish player.

And of course the fans want that win too.

“I think the Welland Jackfish are gonna kick butt,” said a fan.

And it turns out the Jackfish were the better team, going 4-0 to win this year’s CHCH QEW Cup.
