A group of Indian immigrants hopes to change the lives of others settling in Hamilton.

The group members, who came to the city from the southern Indian state of Kerala, have been working to help other immigrants with everything from jobs to childcare. Their goal is also to help keep their cultural heritage alive.

In the past five years, more than 200 families have moved to Hamilton from Kerala.

Sanji Kollanthara organized the event. “Our motto is we care, we share. That is our slogan.”

“Those who are here for 20 years, 15 years, they have already settled, they already know everything. But those who come for first time to this country, they need a lot of help.”

Kerala is the only Indian state to have achieved a 100 per cent literacy rate, but many are still having trouble finding work there.
