Welcome to Me is a dark comedy directed by Shira Piven (Fully Loaded). The producing team is headlined by Will Ferrell, Piven’s husband Adam McKay, and the film’s star Kristen Wiig. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September in the Special Presentations programme. The film also stars Wes Bentley, Linda Cardellini, Joan Cusak, Jennifer Jason Leigh, James Marsden, and Tim Robbins.

A woman with borderline personality disorder (Kristen Wiig) wins the Mega-Millions and — much to the dismay of her parents, therapist, gay ex-husband and local TV station — uses the winnings to fund her lifelong dream of becoming the next Oprah.

Wiig is hopeful that the audience will share in her love-hate relationship with her character Alice. “You feel sorry for Alice and at the same time, you totally get why people are frustrated with her, and yet you’re rooting for her. With her having this disorder and the way it manifests and comes about by her having success and notoriety and all of this money, it was a very interesting way to watch someone unravel as they have all of these supposed good things come to them.”

Welcome to Me is rated 14A.
