Water main breaks cause traffic delays

Water main breaks on Hamilton streets are causing traffic delays across the city.

16 homes and businesses were affected by a break on Dundurn Street between King Street and Main Street on Monday morning. Repairs are expected to wrap up around 4pm Monday. Drivers are asked to avoid the area until then.

Another break early Morning morning closed Duke Street between Hess and Queen. Eleven homes and an apartment building have no water while repairs are underway.

There are also traffic delays near Hughson Street North and Wilson Street, because of another water main break over the weekend. The water main there is repaired but road crews are still fixing the road. They expect to be wrapped up by 4pm Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the city says the aging infrastructure is responsible for the breaks. Some of Hamilton’s pipes are almost 80 years old.
