Ontario Premier Doug Ford held a press conference in North York along with Minister Trevor Jones announcing a new Ontario Corps response team.

The team is planned to consist of skilled professionals and volunteers deployable to help communities respond to natural disasters and other emergencies.

Part of the plan is to establish an Ontario Emergency Preparedness and Response Headquarters located on surplus government property on Disco Road in Etobicoke.

A secure, state-of-the-art complex centre would be built to withstand all types of disasters, and be capable of serving Ontario “24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year” reads a statement made following the announcement.

Ontario Corps is part of the government’s investment of $110 million over three years to increase the province’s emergency preparedness.
