Hamilton police have found partial human remains at the Glanbrook Landfill during their search for a woman missing for nearly six months.

Although, investigators could not confirm the remains are those of Shalini Singh as they are waiting on the DNA test results, which they say could take several weeks.

“The Hamilton Police Service remains at the site and will continue to search for more human remains and for evidence for this investigation,” Det. Sgt. Daryl Reid said during a press conference Thursday.

“I have notified the family of Shalini Singh of this development and they are currently being supported by our victim services.”

The 40-year-old woman was reported missing by her family on Dec. 10, 2024, however her last contact with them was almost a week before that on Dec. 4.

Her common-law boyfriend was also reported missing with her, but he showed up at a family member’s house on Dec. 11. Police allege he has continued to not co-operate throughout the investigation.

Reid would not confirm whether the boyfriend is considered a person of interest or suspect. No arrests have been made at this time and there is no evidence to suggest multiple people were involved in Singh’s death.

Homicide detectives quickly took over the case based on evidence that led officers to become concerned for her well-being.

Police say surveillance video from her building shows no indication of Singh leaving on her own after Dec. 4.

“As the investigation progressed, we began to consider the possibility that Shalini may have been disposed of and removed from the building by way of the garbage disposal system,” Reid said.

Officers say the remains were found last week after a three-month-long search of the Glanbrook Landfill.

Hamilton police are now working with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Ontario Centre of Forensic Sciences to examine the partial remains.

Investigators continue to search the landfill for more human remains and say the completion date for this search will be reassessed based on the findings.
