The City of Hamilton is celebrating “Newcomer Day” Friday afternoon, with celebrations and educational services running until 6 p.m. at City Hall.

Newcomer Day is an annual free event held by the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council each May that welcomes new residents to the city, honours their contributions to the area and helps them to better understand their new environment.

The event started at noon and will run until 6 p.m.

City Hall tours will be available and there is a Kids Zone and a stage for various presentations, including tales of “immigrant stories.” Food trucks, vendors and an international marketplace are also there to be enjoyed.

New Canadians were scheduled to be sworn in from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
