A Hamilton man wanted in connection with the death of a motorcyclist in 2021 has been arrested in New York after attempting to smuggle weapons.

Faizan Ali, 25, of Hamilton was convicted in the death of a motorcyclist in May 2021. He was sentenced to 11 years for charges such as possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and possessing firearms.

Ali, a Hamilton resident but a citizen of Pakistan, was released pending sentencing but failed to appear for his court date. Authorities have been looking for him since.

On May 7, 2026, near Liberty, N.Y., New York State Police initiated a traffic stop of a white Ford Explorer after observing it commit traffic violations.

Officers asked the three men to exit the vehicle but were met with inconsistent and “evasive accounts” in response to further questioning.

During the interview, Ali consented to a roadside search of his person. During the search, a trooper discovered an expired Pakistani National Driving Permit concealed within Ali’s buttocks; the document was issued to an Afghan national under a different name.

A canine sweep was conducted around the outside of the vehicle, which alerted authorities to the potential presence of narcotics. The initial search of the vehicle resulted in troopers observing an “unusually heavy suitcase,” which was found to contain a large amount of firearms.

After continuing the search, more firearms were found in the backseat.

The three men have been charged with the following:

  • Smuggling from the United States
  • Unlicensed dealing in firearms
  • Transporting stolen firearms in interstate commerce
  • Unlawful possession of firearms

Bromfield has also been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by an alien.
