Voting is officially underway for the City of Hamilton’s “Name the Plow” initiative.

The city’s Transportation Division is appealing to residents of Hamilton to help them choose some unique and creative names for 10 snow clearing vehicles this winter season.

The initiative was started in 2022 and allows residents to easily identify exactly which plow is coming down the street on Hamilton’s interactive snow-clearing map.

Staff have chosen 20 names to vote on after narrowing down the list of submissions received from Hamilton residents.

There are some pretty clever names this year such as Taylor Drift, Thaw Patrol, Holy MackinTHAW, Sled Zeppelin, and Better Call Salt.

Last year, Arkell’s front man Max Kerman had his name immortalized on one of the 10 snow plows with more than 18,000 votes for the name Max Kermanator.

Plowy McPlowface came in second with a little over 2,000 votes while CRTL-SALT-DELETE was voted as the third most popular name.

With each upcoming winter weather event, Hamilton road crews are responsible for clearing approximately 6,478 kilometres of roadway and 866 kilometres of sidewalks.

Workers complete this duty using 115 city plows, over 300 contracted pieces of plowing equipment and 34 sidewalk plows.
