A three-year-old boy who disappeared into the Grand River in February will be remembered at a vigil Wednesday night.

Kaden Young was swept out of his mother’s arms when their vehicle entered the swollen river near Orangeville on the night of Feb. 21.

Emergency responders, community members and volunteers spent weeks searching the river, to no avail.

On Saturday, a fisherman found a child’s body in the river in Belwood, about 13 kilometres from where the boy went missing.

Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the identity of body after an autopsy.

“We are wanting to thank everyone that has helped in the efforts to bring our Son Kaden home,” Young’s mother Michelle Hanson wrote on Facebook.

“It has been a long extremely draining two months of searching and now has finally come to an end. The amount of support was absolutely incredible and we really can’t thank everyone enough.”

The vigil is planned on the Belwood Bridge on Wednesday.

A public funeral will be held Saturday May 5 at the Compass Church in Mono.
