A woman killed by a falling tree branch while hiking in Ancaster has now been identified.

Kelsey Sonnenburg, 23, was hiking with friends at the base of Tiffany Falls around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon when a large branch suddenly fell 18 metres.

She was struck on the head and killed instantly.

Sonnenburg’s obituary states that the Carlton Place native was a nurse at McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Her family says donations can be made to the McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation, or to the Carleton Place Hospital Foundation.  Her funeral is set for Friday in Carlton Place.

The park at Tiffany Falls remains closed while the investigation into what happened continues.
