VIA Rail derailment: one year later

One year ago a VIA Rail train went off the tracks in Burlington.

Three people died instantly, and dozens more were injured. CHCH News is bringing you special coverage on the anniversary, with the latest on the victims and the investigation.

Trains are running though as they normally do here, frequently stopping traffic as they cross King Road. But one year ago tomorrow, the area was glowing with flashing red and blue lights from police cruisers, fire trucks and ambulances. Dozens of neighbours were out of their living rooms, gathered on the grass, watching and waiting for answers. While we now know VIA passenger train 92 was speeding, Melissa Raftis tells us all are still waiting for many of the same answers – mainly, why.
