Toronto police say three officers travelling on vacation have been charged in Barcelona and are facing “serious” allegations, though the service would not provide details on the accusations.

Police spokesperson Stephanie Sayer says the officers were off duty and not travelling in any official capacity.

She says one of the officers has since returned to Canada and has been suspended from duty, and the other two will be suspended when they return in the coming days.

Sayer declined to comment further, saying the cases are before the courts. The officers have not been identified.

Several Spanish media sites say three Canadian police officers on vacation have been arrested in the alleged sexual assault and assault of a sex worker in Barcelona.

Toronto police would not confirm when asked whether the Toronto officers were the ones in the Spanish news reports, referring questions to Spanish police.
