U.S. Steel management made it official Tuesday; the blast furnace at the Hamilton Works won’t be fired up again. It will cost the company $225-million to write down the operation this quarter, but it is part of the new strategy for U.S. Steel going forward.

One of the most iconic parts of the Hamilton skyline will never be the same. And while the decision is not altogether unexpected, it has still shaken a city that built its identity on steel. Tonight, city officials are now demanding a face-to-face meeting with U.S. Steel executives in Pittsburgh. Elise Copps has that story.
