Unspecified number of Liberal MPs set to confront Trudeau to step down

An unknown number of Liberal members of parliament plan to confront Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down as leader.

It is expected to happen Wednesday morning at the party’s caucus meeting.

Rumours have spread about a letter that a number of Liberals have signed with the hope of improving the party’s chances in the next election.

So far, only Prince Edward Island MP Sean Casey has admitted to signing the letter urging Trudeau to quit.

The letter follows after Trudeau’s poll numbers plummeted over a year ago and successive byelection losses have raised concerns about his leadership.

The MPs do not have a formal mechanism to depose Trudeau as leader meaning the decision to step down is ultimately up to him.
