CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram spoke with the Hamilton filmmaker Sean Menard, who will debut a new Terry Fox documentary later this year.

The iconic story of Terry Fox is being told in a new way, with a documentary coming out that is using more than 90 reels of restored and mostly unseen footage.

The feature-length documentary is called “Run Terry Run” and it promises to shed new light on Fox’s story through during the 1980 Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.

Menard, who also created the documentary on Much Music “299 Queen Street West” said he found the new unseen footage of Fox’s marathon while on tour promoting that film.

Working with Fox’s family, Menard was able to discover 96 reels in a storage facility five street lights away from his house.

He said he originally didn’t know much about Fox’s life, and making a new documentary would be the best way for him to learn.

An advance screening of the film will be held at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto Nov. 10, with live musical accompaniment by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

Proceeds from ticket sales will support the Terry Fox Foundation.
