A search has been suspended off the Massachusetts coast for six people aboard a Hamilton-based air ambulance that disappeared during a flight from Bermuda to Boston on Saturday.
The decision was made on Sunday after authorities searched more than 7,000 km of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported on Saturday that it lost contact with the Gulfstream G100.
The medical evacuation jet belonging to Latitude Air Ambulance was carrying a patient, their family member and four Canadian crew members from Bermuda.
A debris field was found on Saturday off the coast of Nantucket.
“Suspending the search is not an easy decision. We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the tragedy and our gratitude for our partner agencies who helped support search efforts,” said Rear Admiral Matthew Lake, commander of the Coast Guard’s northeast district.
The Coast Guard says authorities used fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, boats and cutters in its search.
