Two Wednesday night shootings in Hamilton targeted and linked: police

Hamilton police say two shootings in the city Wednesday night were targeted and linked.

The first happened near Gage Park around 7 p.m. Officers were called to the area of Cumberland Ave. and Gage Ave. S for reports that a man had fired a gun.

A 23-year-old was located in the area and was arrested after a short chase. Police say a firearm was recovered.

The man faces several weapons charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm and discharge firearm with intent. His name has not been released.

Officers were called to a second shooting incident, this one on the mountain, around 10 p.m.

There were reports two people fired a gun at home in the area of Luscombe St. and Upper Wellington St. before running away toward Hester St.

Police say several rounds were fired toward the house, which was occupied at the time. No injuries were reported to police.

Both incidents remain under investigation. Police say they believe both incidents were targeted and are linked.
