A 13-year-old girl has been arrested for driving without a licence after a hit and run crash on John St. in Hamilton.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, a grey Toyota sedan was struck by a white Toyota Highlander at the intersection of John and Main Sts., when the Highlander did not stop for the red light.
The driver of the sedan was not injured. The Highlander drove off and failed to remain at the scene.
A short time later, a witness saw the SUV on Spring St. where two young females looked at the damage to the vehicle before driving away.
Police say they made several attempts to contact the registered owner but were unsuccessful.
Then around 2 a.m. police located the Highlander in a residential area on the Hamilton mountain with a 13-year-old driver and a 13-year old passenger. Further investigation revealed the driver is the daughter of the SUV’s owner, he was not aware his daughter had taken the vehicle.
Due to lack of evidence police were unable to identify who was driving the SUV at the time of the collision.
The driver was issued a ‘drive motor vehicle no license’ and is scheduled to appear in court June 7.
Police say the driver and passenger were both reported missing at the time of the investigation.
