Trudeau discusses border issues with Trump over dinner in Florida
Canada’s ambassador to the U.S. says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent Friday discussing border issues over dinner with President Elect Donald Trump in Florida.
Kirsten Hillman says one of Trudeau’s priorities was to ensure Trump understood the differences between Canada’s border with the U.S. and America’s southern border with Mexico.
Trump has threatened both Canada and Mexico with a 25 per cent tariff on all goods into the U.S. if they don’t stop the inflow of drugs and illegal immigration.
The president elect said he, “made it clear that the united states will no longer sit idly by” as its citizens become victims of the drug epidemic.
Hillman says Canada is ready to make new investments in border security and has plans for more helicopters, drone, and law-enforcement officers.
The prime minister posted on X just after 3 p.m. on Friday commemorating the dinner meeting with Trump.
Thanks for dinner last night, President Trump. I look forward to the work we can do together, again. pic.twitter.com/lAWFMTtQt7
