During an interview with Bloomberg’s editor in chief John Micklethwait in New York, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that next week’s federal budget will restore the age of eligibility for old age security to 65.

Trudeau says the previous government’s decision to increase it to 67 was not the right approach. The prime minister says more thought needs to be given to supporting Canada’s seniors.

The Liberals had pledged during the campaign to undo the Conservatives’ decision to raise the age of eligibility for old age security, which would take effect in 2023.

The budget will be tabled on March 22.
