Truck driver charged in death of animal rights activist Regan Russell back in court
The driver charged with killing a 65-year-old animal rights activist, Regan Russell, in Burlington in June of 2020, is back in court today.
Family and friends of Regan Russell gathered outside of Fearmans Pork Inc. Monday morning to unveil a banner on the Highway 403 bridge in her honour, before heading to the courthouse to submit victim impact statements.
Russell was struck and killed by a pig transport truck while protesting outside of a pork plant in June, 2020.
Andrew Blake, is set to make a plea in a Halton courthouse at 10 a.m., he was charged with careless driving causing death. This is a non-criminal charge because investigators believe he did not have criminal intent.
Bill Russell, Regan’s father, wrote an opinion article on The Hamilton Spectator over the weekend, calling for a harsher charge.
Russell’s family will submit their statement at 8:45 a.m.
