Today marks the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance around the world.

It’s a day for trans and non-binary folks, as well as allies, to reflect on the violence that occurs towards the community – and call for change.

Trans and non-binary activists say the day feels more important than ever, following a year of increasing anti-trans laws and demonstrations across North America.

A number of commemorations and candle-light vigils are being held tonight to mark the day.
