Tracks

Tracks is an Australian drama film directed by John Curran (Stone). The film is based on the real-life adventure of Robyn Davidson who, at the age of 25, walked across the Australian outback with only 4 camels – named Bubs, Dookie, Zeleika, and Goliath – and her dog Diggity to help her along. In order to get the money she needs for the trip, she agrees to have Rick Smolan, a photographer for National Geographic, meet her along the way to document her journey. At first the two are at odds about his presence on the trip, but as the journey unfolds and Robyn endures hardships she could never have predicted, Rick becomes her lifeline and encourages her to finish what she started. The film stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Adam Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis).
In Tracks, director John Curran wanted the harsh Australian desert to be more than a setting for the film, but a character. “I didn’t want to come down and shoot something I could do in a studio somewhere. This project was a big attraction for me in that regard. And also I wanted to shoot on film, I wanted a film that was worth the fight to shoot on film because its not easy anymore, as we all know, it’s a dying medium.”
