Toronto Star publisher stepping down

Toronto Star publisher and president of the Star Media Group is stepping down.

Torstar Corp. says John Cruickshank will be leaving effective May 4. His responsibilities will be taken over on an interim basis by president and chief executive of Torstar David Holland.

Cruickshank has been publisher of the Toronto Star for more than seven years, after getting the position in January 2009.

He said in Torstar’s statement that it has been “the most stimulating, demanding and enjoyable period of my professional
life.”

The company did not say why Cruickshank was leaving.
