TORONTO — Toronto police say an officer shot a stabbing suspect in the city’s north end and the province’s police watchdog will investigate the incident.

Police say they responded to calls for a person with a knife in the area of Jane Street and Shoreham Drive on Monday afternoon.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit says in a separate statement that police were made aware that an individual had stabbed two family members.

Police say two victims were found with stab wounds and one of them was taken to a hospital.

They say an officer fired a gun at the male suspect who was armed with “an edged weapon” and who has been identified by the SIU as a 24-year-old.

Police say the suspect was shot and taken to hospital, while two officers sustained minor injuries.
