Toronto man charged with murder in High Park subway stabbings

Toronto police have charged a man with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a woman on a subway train on Thursday.

Officers say the 52-year-old man allegedly stabbed two women at 2 p.m. at High Park subway station.

Police identified 31-year-old Vanessa Kurpiweska of Toronto, who died in hospital. The other person, a 37-year-old, has since been released from hospital.

Investigators say the man and the victims did not know each other.

Police say he was found around 2 p.m. at the subway station and has been arrested.

The man is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
