Toronto man arrested in Boxing Day crash that killed Hamilton teen

A Toronto man has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash that claimed the life of a Hamilton teen on Boxing Day.
Kean McKenzie, 18, died in hospital a week after he was struck by a vehicle while standing on the sidewalk of a busy downtown Toronto intersection on Dec. 26.
The teen was out shopping with his younger brother and father for their annual Christmas present shopping trip.
They were standing on the corner of Richmond St. West and Yonge St. around 2 p.m. when a silver Kia was struck by a white Hyundai SUV. The impact of the collision sent the Kia onto the sidewalk, striking eight people including McKenzie and his brother.
Both teens were rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition and their father was also injured.
After being in an induced coma for a week, McKenzie passed away on New Year’s Day.
On Tuesday, 22-year-old Demar Kerr, of Toronto, was arrested after he surrendered to Toronto police.
Kerr faces five counts of dangerous operation conveyance cause bodily harm and one count each of breach of probation order and dangerous operation conveyance cause death.
