Toronto council begins limiting Rob Ford’s powers

There were two overwhelming votes this morning to strip Toronto mayor Rob Ford of his powers.

A motion to strip him of his powers of committees passed by a vote of 39 to 3. a second motion to remove Ford’s emergency powers passed 41 to 2.

The embattled mayor was much more subdued in council this morning as his fellow councillors voted to remove his some of his mayoral powers.

A third motion will be debated Monday that would see that would see his office essentially moved to the control of the deputy mayor.
