The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is warning residents of increased flood risk amid heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Thursday.

Environment Canada says a stretch of southern Ontario including the Greater Toronto Area is expected to see high wind gusts and up to 20 millimetres of rain through the morning.

The conservation authority says all rivers, streams, shorelines and low-lying areas should be considered dangerous due to elevated water levels.

Toronto police say some vehicles were seen stuck in flooding on parts of the Don Valley Parkway early Thursday, and some roads are closed near Evergreen Brick Works.

The conservation authority says residents should check traffic conditions before heading out and limit travel where possible.

It says residents should stay informed of local weather forecasts and rapidly changing conditions near rivers and streams.
