Tokyo Olympics in doubt

A decision on whether the Tokyo Olympics will start on schedule in July will be made in the next four weeks. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said it’s considering other options. Shinzo Abe, Japan’s prime minister has consistently declared that the games would start on schedule on July 24th. But, many Olympic qualifying events have been cancelled due to the virus. And, many athletes and coaches are nervous. Women’s basketball star and Hamilton native Kia Nurse said she trusts the IOC and Canadian health officials, who have to make tough decisions, are going to do so with the best interest of staff, fans and Canadian athletes in mind.”
