A flood of tips from the public helped the Lincoln County Humane Society identify the owners of a starving dog. The french mastiff mix, named Minnie, was found behind a plaza in St. Catharines last night. It’s one of the worst cases of animal abuse the humane society officers have ever seen. Minnie has been so underfed that she is just skin and bones. “The level of emaciation is quite surprising to me, I’ve seen dogs in very bad shape” says Kevin Strooband from the Lincoln County Humane Society. Minnie weighs just 45 pounds, but should be twice that – especially when its apparent that she’s just had a litter of pups. “We do know she is producing milk- so there are pups out there somewhere. But a dog that’s nursing should never get to this condition”.
Last night someone called the Lincoln County Humane Society to report an emaciated dog wandering around behind the Sobey’s Store at Grantham Plaza. Investigators were able to identify the owners with the help of photos of Minnie and her pups posted on Facebook. She’s been surrendered to the lincoln county humane society, where she will be nursed back to health, and will eventually be put up for adoption.
