Niagara police have charged three people after recovering a box trailer that was stolen from a home in the Town of Grimsby Thursday morning.

Officers say one man allegedly attended a property on South Grimsby Road Wednesday and removed a security lock that was placed on the trailer.

They say the following morning, at around 4:50 a.m., three suspects allegedly attended the property and stole the trailer.

Detectives found the trailer on Brand Road in Grimsby, after following a GPS location device that was located in the trailer at the time it was stolen.

Investigators executed a search warrant on the property, which resulted in the recovery of the stolen trailer.

Three people were then identified and arrested.

Police have charged 46-year-old Christopher McLaughlin of West Lincoln, 34-year-old Samantha Douglas and 31-year-old Frank Shadbolt of Grimsby each with the offences of theft over $5,000 and for possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Douglas and McLaughlin were released on a Form 10 undertaking with a future court date set for May 1.

Shadbolt remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Friday.
