The Forest is a horror film directed by first time feature filmmaker Jason Zada. The film is being produced by David Goyer, the writer for Man of Steel and the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and stars Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney.
A supernatural thriller set in the legendary Aokigahara Forest at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer of “Game of Thrones” and “The Hunger Games”), goes in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. Despite everyone’s warnings to “stay on the path,” Sara enters the forest determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate – only to be confronted by the angry and tormented souls of the dead that prey on anyone who wanders in.
In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Zada spoke about the role the forest plays in the film. “In building the forest as sort of the bad guy in the film, and being this dark evil presence, we made the decision based on all of my research and everything that we’ve done, that the forest isn’t necessarily evil, it has the ability to show you kind of the sadness that’s inside of you, and to enhance that and to manipulate you. The forest doesn’t kill you, you kill yourself. It’s the idea that there’s a place that could show you the worst things about your life.”
The Forest is rated 14A.
