The Boxtrolls

The Boxtrolls is a stop-motion animated film based on the book Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow. It is being produced by Laika studios (Coraline) and is directed by Graham Annable. The story goes like this, from the official synopsis:
The Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and loveable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs, since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher, who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese.
Where Laika’s first two films – Coraline and Paranorman – were contemporary stories, The Boxtrolls has a different feel to it. As lead animator Travis Knight explains, “This movie is a period piece – and is a mash-up of detective story, absurdist comedy, and steampunk adventure with visual splendor and a surprisingly wholesome heart. It’s like Charles Dickens entwined with Roald Dahl and Monty Python.”
The Boxtrolls is rated G.
