Text with 911

In an emergency, people with hearing and speech impairments in Halton will now be able to “text with 9-1-1.”  The region joined about a half dozen other Ontario communities, when it officially launched the service Monday.

In an emergency you still call 911 but the operator will be notified on their computer that the caller is DHHSI.  They will then start messaging through text.

The service is only available for hearing or speech impaired people who have pre-registered their phones with their wireless provider.
