Ten people arrested, over 250 charges laid in major OPP drug and weapons bust

Two Brantford men and a man from Ancaster are among 10 people arrested and charged in a major drugs and weapons bust by OPP.

In a news release, Ontario Provincial Police say they received information indicating “significant” firearms and drug trafficking activity in Southwestern Ontario.

Their investigation identified four unrelated criminal networks involved in the trafficking of cocaine, firearms, explosives and cannabis.

On Mar. 9, officers executed 11 search warrants in several places, including Brantford, Ancaster, Paris, London and Barrie.

They seized:

• 31 firearms
• 81 grenades
• Two grenade launchers
• 22 other prohibited devices
• Three explosive projectiles
• 10.85 kilograms of cocaine
• 216 pounds of illegal cannabis
• Five pounds of hash
• More than $10,000 in other illegal cannabis products
• 36 pounds of psilocybin
• 715 grams of MDMA
• $127,757 in Canadian currency
• $2,106 in U.S. currency
• Eight vehicles

Police released video of one of the grenades being detonated.

Ten people face 268 charges between them. Three of them have been held in custody, while the others were released with conditions.

Investigators say some of the people charged include alleged members of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club in the London area, cocaine traffickers in Brantford and weapons traffickers also in Brantford.

Among the charged is Jayme Hill, 31, of Brantford, who is facing 23 charges; Sean Sutherland, 32, of Ancaster, who is facing 126 charges; and Brandon Spaulding, 31, of Brantford, who is facing 50 charges.
