UPDATE: Oakville teen killed in horseback riding accident in Hamilton

Hamilton Police say a teenager has died following a horseback riding accident Monday.

The 14-year-old girl and her mother were riding on a property along Millgrove Side Rd.

Police say the girl’s horse got stuck in a marshy bog.

The teen was able to dismount from the horse but became submerged while waiting for help.

She was pulled from the marsh without vital signs. She was taken to hospital where she died of her injuries.

Her identity is not being released.

The investigation into how exactly this happened is underway.

Police say the pair were experienced riders but were riding on an unfamiliar path.
