A teenager has been charged with public mischief after lying about being abducted in Waterloo.

Police were called to the area of Bridge St. W and University Ave. E on Thursday afternoon. A 16-year-old reported being forced into a vehicle by several suspects, who had a knife and a gun.

According to a news release, officers conducted a “high-risk” traffic stop involving the suspect vehicle. Four people were arrested.

“The investigation revealed that the alleged victim fabricated the abduction and knew the other parties involved,” said the news release.

Police say the teen put the four people and the general public at risk.

The 16-year-old was charged with one count of public mischief for making an alleged false report.
