Taxes going up in Hamilton

Property taxes are going up $99 dollars for the average home owner in Hamilton this year, and that’s not including an extra $24 dollars in water and sewer fees.

That’s based on a home worth just under $285,000 dollars. The 2.7 percent average tax hike is included in the 2015 operating budget that Hamilton City Council ratified last night — the highest increase in five years.

The budget includes new spending for transit, the arts, emergency services and infrastructure.  About 130 new employees will be hired.
