Police have re-opened Stone Church Rd on Hamilton’s east mountain, after firefighters determined a suspicious package found in an office is not explosive.
Emergency crews responded to Saint Elizabeth healthcare at 1525 Stone Church near Pritchard after the package was discovered around 10:30 this morning. Hamilton Police Cst Steve Welton told CHCH News says a powdered substance, possibly hazardous was found inside the package.
The Hamilton Fire hazardous materials unit entered the building just before noon and removed the package. Public information officer Claudio Mostacci said “we don’t really know what the product is. We also have a (decontamination) unit if they come out and we deem the product hazardous.”
Police are investigating to determine who sent the package and the circumstances behind it. No one was injured.
