Superhero Run raises over $150k for Niagara Children’s Centre
Superheroes from across the Niagara Region were at Brock University on Sunday for the annual Superhero Run in support of the Niagara Children’s Centre.
The event had over 400 participants raising funds for more resources to cut down on wait times for families needing care.
The Niagara Children’s Centre helps families through the process of supporting a sick child including their siblings, and parents.
This year the event raised $151,000 that will go towards hiring more therapists to help more families.
Bryan Hermans’ family has been participating since 2018 when their son Jacob was diagnosed with autism. Since then, they have raised about $42,000.
“It’s changed our lives. He’s completely verbal and never stops talking really. It’s been a fantastic experience, the Niagara Centre is like a family,” said Hermans’.
Participants had a chance to run or walk a 5k, a 2.5k, or a 1k race. The centre designed the smallest route to include all children with various medical challenges.
“Along the walk, so kids don’t get bored with just a 1k walk what we do is offer 10 activity stations featuring different superhero themes tied to the therapy the children would get if they came to the Niagara Children’s Centre,” said Director of Development, Marla Smith.
