Student injured in GTHA shootings dies in hospital: police
Halton police say another victim involved in Monday’s shootings across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area has died.
Officers say in a media release Saturday that Satwinder Singh, 28, of Milton passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital with his family and friends by his side.
“This is heartbreaking news for our community which hasn’t even begun to heal from Monday’s traumatic events. I urge everyone to reach out and ask for help if they need it,” said Halton Regional Police Service Chief Stephen Tanner.
Singh was an international student from India who was working part-time at MK Auto Repairs at the time of the shooting.
Shakeel Ashraf, owner of the auto shop, and Toronto police officer Andrew Hong also died on Monday in the shootings that started in Mississauga.
Officers say 40-year-old Sean Petrie is the suspect responsible for the shootings. He later died after a confrontation with police in Hamilton on Monday.
The chief of Peel Regional Police says Petrie had an extensive criminal record, including convictions for assault and weapons offences. In 2007, Petrie was placed on a national flagging system as someone with a high risk to reoffend.
Members of the public with information regarding this investigation and Petrie are asked to contact police.
