Stolen license plate leads to recovery of loaded gun in Niagara Falls: police

Two 21-year-old men have been charged after a stolen license plate investigation led to the recovery of a loaded handgun in Niagara Falls on Thursday.

Detectives first observed two suspicious men in the area of Stanley Avenue and Ferry Street entering a vehicle with license plates that had been reported as stolen.

Police say further investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrests of the suspects.

During the arrests, officers say they recovered stolen jewelry and a loaded 9mm Luger handgun in their possession.

Josh Delaney and Donavin Stewart, both of no fixed address, face 6 firearm and theft-related charges each.

The duo were held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and further charges are anticipated at this time.
