There are only two candidates running for mayor in Port Colborne in the upcoming municipal election. Those two candidates are brothers.
Current mayor Bill Steele, who was also a former city councillor for 17 years, is running for a second term. His older brother Charles Steele who worked at Canada Post for 12 years says he doesn’t like the way the town is being run and wants to see change.
Charles Steele hasn’t spoken to his brother for over 30 years. “He doesn’t seem to be doing much for the city other than promoting cruise ships. He tends to take care of the rich,” Charles said.
CHCH News asked Bill Steele about his opponent, “as I’ve done for my 21 years, I don’t really discuss my opponents. I get Bill Steele elected.”
Most of the residents CHCH News spoke to were a bit concerned about two brothers going against each other in an election but others thought it may be interesting. All say what’s important is getting the issues fixed.
Both candidates want to make it more affordable for residents.
Advance polling in Port Colborne will open starting October 1st and after the municipal election on October 24th the new council term will start November 15th.
