Steel City Video to close doors after 30 years

It’s the last store of its kind here in Hamilton.

On Monday night, Steel City Video will shut it doors after nearly 30 years.

Since 1989, Steel City Video on Main Street East has been renting movies 365 days a year. The only place left in Hamilton, where you could do that.

As times change, renting videos may not be trendy anymore, but listening to music on vinyl is. Places like Dr. Disc, which opened just two years after Steel City Video, are still going strong.

Over the last decade, we’ve seen a huge resurgence of vinyl records, with a lot of people preferring to get their music on actual tangible albums they can play on their turntable.

The store says they still have a loyal customer base, but that the owners have decided to retire and move on to other things. They have marked down everything, with some DVDs going for a buck. You can shop until Monday night and after that, what’s left will be donated to charity. July 17th marks the end of their occupancy.
