StatCan: Canada adds 83,000 jobs in June, unemployment down

Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate dropped to 6.9 per cent in June, thanks to an influx of 83,000 jobs across the country. However, most of the new jobs added to the pool are part-time.
June marks the first month of significant job gains since the start of the year, ending a three-month streak where the unemployment rate rose.
Economists say they had no expectation of job gains for the month, If anything, they suspected unemployment rates would rise.
It remains to be seen whether these figures will impact the Bank of Canada’s next interest rate decision. That is expected to take place on July 30.
