Hamilton police are now investigating their 12th homicide of the year and a man staying with the victim and his family is now in custody.

Dried blood covers the front porch of a King street east home where 31-year old Marcel Chartrand lived and who police say was stabbed to death by someone staying at a multiple dwelling home. Police arrived just after midnight and found the father of two on the porch with a stab wound. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.

33-year old Robert Vandyk was arrested at the home following the incident and charged with second degree murder. He is still in custody after appearing in court this afternoon. Police say Vandyk was staying with Marcel and his family.
